Description:

If you have an aptitude for investigating; research and analysis of complex economic or legal issues, and you are interested in joining our hard-working team of competition practitioners, then the Competition Commission's Mergers and Acquisitions Division invites you to apply for the position of Junior Analyst. The core function of a Junior Analyst is to investigate mergers and acquisitions, as part of a team and/or independently.

A starting annual total cost to company package of R 835 236,40 (Negotiable, commensurate with experience)

Please note that this position is available on a five (5) year fixed-term contract, renewable.

Key Accountabilities

The main responsibilities of the incumbent will, inter alia, include:

  • The investigation, research and analysis of the competitive effects of mergers in terms of Chapter 3 of the Competition Act.
  • Writing of reports on mergers and liaison with merging parties and other interested parties.
  • Representation of merger investigation findings to the decision-makers in the Competition Commission and the Competition Tribunal.
  • To assist with administration, policy development and strategic planning and implementation in the Competition Commission.
  • The monitoring of mergers conditionally approved by the Competition Commission.

 

Requirements:

Minimum Requirements:

We are looking for an individual who meets the following requirements:

  • An Honours Degree in Economics or a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Degree.
  • MUST have at least 2 years’ experience of which 1 year MUST be within Competition.

Other considerations:

  • Practical work exposure to area of expertise will be further considered to balance against other requirements.
  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical, communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to exercise sound judgment.
  • Understanding and interest on competition matters.
