Description:

The Competition Commission seeks to appoint an Analyst to join the dynamic team responsible for investigating mergers and acquisitions in the economy with the purpose of preventing mergers and acquisitions that may lead to a substantial prevention or lessening of competition in the economy or have an adverse effect on the public interest.

 

A starting annual total cost to company package of 977 036,51 (negotiable commensurate with experience)

 

Please note this position is available on a five-year fixed term contract, renewable.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Duties include, amongst others:

  • The investigation, research and analysis of the effects of mergers in terms of the Competition Act.
  • Report writting
  • Liaison with merging parties and other interested parties.
  • Representation of merger investigation findings to the decision-makers in the Competition Commission and the Competition Tribunal.
  • To assist with administration, policy development and strategic planning and implementation in the Competition Commission.
  • The monitoring of mergers conditionally approved by the Competition Commission.

Requirements:

We are looking for a dynamic, hardworking and committed individual who is in possession of:

  • An Honours’ Degree in Economics or LLB. A Masters’ Degree in Economics or an LLM would be advantageous.
  • 3 - 5 years’ experience and exposure in a legal environment or experience and exposure to economic analysis.
  • A minimum of 2 years prior exposure to competition law/ economics
  • Understanding and interest on competition matters.

Other considerations:

  • Practical work exposure to area of expertise will be further considered to balance against other requirements.
